Our view: start with Grammarly Free if you mainly want help catching spelling and grammar issues. Consider Pro when sentence rewrites or tone adjustment solve a recurring problem in your own writing. A longer feature list alone is not a reason to subscribe.

What Grammarly offers

Grammarly’s current plan page lists spelling and grammar assistance, tone visibility and a limited allowance of AI prompts in Free. Pro adds features including full-sentence rewrites, tone adjustment and a larger prompt allowance. Enterprise is aimed at organizations with additional management and security requirements.

Those are the provider’s feature descriptions. The value for you depends on the kind of writing you do and how often a suggestion improves the draft. We have not run a controlled accuracy or speed test, so this review does not attach a numerical score to those outcomes.

Where it can fit your workflow

For frequent email or document writing, an assistant that suggests corrections alongside a draft can be a convenient final editing pass. The important question is whether the suggestions save you useful effort while preserving what you intended to say.

For writers who already review every sentence carefully, basic corrections may be enough. For people who repeatedly revise the tone of business messages, evaluate the tone features using real examples. A student, editor and customer-support writer may need very different things from the same tool.

What still needs your judgment

A correction or rewrite can alter the emphasis of a sentence. Read the suggestion in context before accepting it, especially for technical language, quotations and statements where a small wording change matters.

Writing assistance also does not remove the need to verify names, numbers, citations and claims. If a tool generates a passage, compare that passage against the underlying sources. When your task primarily needs expert judgment or a structural edit, consider whether a qualified editor is the more appropriate help.

For work documents, check the product’s privacy information and your organization’s approved-tool policy before adding the service to your workflow. Availability in a browser or app is a convenience, not permission to submit every document.

How to judge the paid plan

Use a short piece of your own writing to establish a baseline. Note which suggestions you accept, which you reject, and how much additional editing remains. Then identify a paid feature you would use regularly. If you cannot name one, stay with Free while you learn what is missing.

Prices, billing periods and offers vary, so compare the total shown at checkout rather than assuming a headline monthly figure is the amount charged every month. Review the renewal terms and any trial conditions. We do not advertise an unverified discount or promise that subscribing will improve a particular outcome.

Method and sources

This is a research-based editorial review, not a claim of hands-on testing. Product descriptions were checked against Grammarly’s current plans and feature information on October 13, 2026. Our recommendations are judgments about how to evaluate those features, not measured performance results.
